Hmmmmmmmm, we did well, had a good day. There's just a lot of work to be done before we pour the floor.
Today we got two and a third yards poured along the base of the north wall.
We also got the pull lines in all of the conduits and the sonotubes cut for the columns.

This will give you an idea of the pattern for the floating boulders.
The boulders were supposed to be in yesterday. Now it appears they'll be here Monday. I don't want to pour the columns until I have the boulders in hand.
I've got to figure out the positioning of the boulder to give the best effect. So the height of the column will be determined in part by that.
The supplier ordered fourteen boulders out of Colorado weighing between seven hundred and fifteen hundred pounds. When that truck hits town I want to be there to choose the rocks I want for the pond.
Each boulder will be plumbed for the water features. Not only will the bo ulders be different, the features will also be different. The customer mentioned that it would be kewel for one of the boulders to have a natural bird bath.
Doable.

One of the concerns of course is an escape from a steep sided pond. Our path along the old wall will provide that.
If you look at the south wall you will see it's final height for a deck area. Along the bottom curb that's the transition from the vertical to the horizontal you will see an area that's without the boulders. That's where the base of the platform will be.
The platform will be a place to leave the deck to start down the path. We plan on putting in handholds of stone along the old wall to act as a handrail.

Yesterday took me back thirty years.
Thirty years ago I was running without much sleep. I'd leave early, get home late, and wake up the next morning running.
Yesterday I left the house about six thirty as usual. But instead of getting home the usual six thirty in the evening I got in about a quarter to ten.
There is a difference between being twenty seven versus fifty seven.
Most of it's attitude.
Yesterday we found out our boulders that were supposed to have arrived a week and a half ago won't actually get here until Wednesday.
I wanted to see the boulders before I poured the columns. Second choice was going to another stone yard and checking theirs out. That's what I did. After seeing and touching twelve to fifteen hundred pound boulders I knew what I wanted for column height.
Yesterday we got the columns poured.

We also got the last section of the transition poured.
It was a good day. We mixed and poured a little over three yards. A lot of work for old men.

We've had a lot of good luck this job.
If it continues today we'll pour the lights for the columns and their stones and do final grade. And hopefully we'll get all the iron tied in.
I've been soliciting help amongst some younger guys I know who need some extra money and claim to want to do a day's work for a day's pay. I've told them we'll need some help mixing and pouring fifty mixer loads to do the floor tomorrow.
I didn't want to scare them off. I figure it'll take somwhere between sixty and seventy.

It is coming together.

Last night the washout god blessed us with thirty plus yards of the good stuff.
We're putting in niche lights to shine up from the floor to highlight the floating boulders.
We have a number six bare ground tying all the lights together will all the rebar plus it's grounded via rods.
We got lucky on the columns.
We didn't get as far as I'd hoped. But it was a good day.
Tomorrow we'll finish filling in and doing grade and then we'll do the rebar.
The floor will be six inches thick and it's a little over twelve hundred square feet.
We're going to have one end with a concrete bottom and hopefully a concrete wall around the whole thing.
It's a fun project.

Here's a shot of the area to be poured tomorrow.
We're looking west.

Looking south west

Look what I found today

Those three run about nine hundred to a little over a thousand pounds.
But this one is about sixteen hundred.
That's "each" for those three rocks.
Now I'll bet you looked at that big ole girl and thought I was a sick puppy to want that dull bland looking puppy on this project.
Granite boulders share something with a t-shirt on a young lady.
Everything changes with the application of a little water.

This rock will have to be prepared for the column with a lot of TLC. It's got about four colors in it in layers and a lot of quartz.
It lacks perfect shape and consistant pattern.
We call that character.
Some have it.
It is it.
